Installation Ceremony

Governor General Designate Mary May Simon’s installation ceremony took place on July 26, 2021.

An installation, the most important state ceremony within Canada's constitutional and ceremonial structure, is when a governor general designate officially becomes the governor general of Canada.

The installation speech, the first official address to Canadians as Governor General, will introduce the vision and themes for the mandate.

Canadian Heritage is responsible for planning the event.
