Canadian Honours

Recognition happens here

Officially created by the sovereign, Canadian honours are presented by the governor general to celebrate and thank extraordinary people for their tremendous contributions to our country.  The granting of decorations and medals or an investiture into an order are also means of inspiring others to help build a better country.

Canadian honours are respected around the world as a system of recognition that is merit-based, apolitical and accessible. Any person or group can shine a spotlight on the extraordinary people they know by nominating them!

    Decorations for Bravery

Recipients of the Decorations of Bravery risked their lives and chose to defy their own instinct of survival to try and save a loved one or a perfect stranger whose life was in immediate danger.

  • The Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division)

The Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division)

The Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) were established to recognize remarkable contributions in many different fields of endeavour, from advocacy initiatives and health care services, to research and humanitarian efforts.

  • Northern Lights

    Polar Medal

Every day, remarkable individuals contribute to northern communities and to our knowledge of the polar regions and Canada’s North.

  • Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers
