Greetings from the Governor General and His Majesty The King
The Governor General sends birthday greetings to Canadians who are 90 years of age or older and to couples who are celebrating an anniversary of 50 years or more.
His Majesty The King sends birthday greetings to Canadians who are 100 years of age or older and to couples who are celebrating an anniversary of 60 years or more.
If the anniversary or birthday has already taken place, the message from The King may be backdated up to 6 months.
If the anniversary or birthday has already taken place, the message from the Governor General may be backdated up to 12 months.
Delivery of Greetings
Greetings from the Governor General and The King are issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG).
Requests must be received by the OSGG at least eight (8) weeks prior to the required delivery date. While we are pleased to accept requests with less than the required notice, we cannot guarantee that the messages will be provided by the required date. You may submit your request as early as one year before the anniversary date.
Greetings will be mailed approximately one (1) month before the anniversary date, unless otherwise specified by the requester.
Upon request, greetings will be sent every five (5) years for birthdays starting at 90 and anniversaries starting at 50, then every year for birthdays starting at 100 and anniversaries starting at 70.
It is no longer necessary to provide proof of birth or marriage to receive greetings from The King.
