“It was with great sadness that my husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond, and I learned of the passing of Dwight Wilson at the venerable age of 106.
When he was just 15 years old, his willingness to defend the values of justice and freedom compelled him to join the Canadian Forces during the First World War and he was sent to Europe. It is because of people like him that the world refused to give in to oppression and tyranny. We must never forget the generosity and determination with which those women and men left their homes and traveled thousands of miles to help other women, men and children they did not even know.
They have made an enormous impact on our collective history, and Mr. Wilson’s contribution is a source of great pride, not only for this children and grandchildren, but for everyone in Canada. On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to offer his family and friends our most sincere condolences.”
