Having joined the Bank of Nova Scotia after high school, he served in various branches in the Maritime provinces, Montreal and Toronto, advancing to Chairman of the Board and Executive Officer in 1974. His wide knowledge of banking and commerce is highly regarded in the financial and business communities of Canada and abroad. He has also been generous in his support of many voluntary organizations.
