Symbolism
The rings and the symmetrical division of the shield illustrate the principle of equity, which His Honour has studied at length, and which he cherishes. The circle, a symbol of perfection, unity and infinity, is also a sign of partnership, in this case between his Honour and his fellow citizens. The fleur-de-lis honours Quebec. The branches symbolize peace, non-violence, strength and wisdom; made of olive, of which the oil has long served as fuel for lamps, they also refer to knowledge and the advancement of humankind through education.

Symbolism
The crowned partridge, which appears in the arms of the old province of Aunis, refers to the origins of the Doyon family who came from this region of France. It is also a symbol for sociability and solidarity.

Symbolism
For His Honour, dogs are faithful and protective animals. The horses, which were rare in the early beginning of New France, symbolize the agricultural origins of the Doyon family in the countryside, as does the field of wheat. The batons recall that His Honour was, in turn, President (bâtonnier in French) of the Bar of Quebec City and of the Quebec Bar. The books refer to his university studies and denote the importance of education.
