About the Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division)

The Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) was Created by Queen Elizabeth II to recognize great Canadians for an exceptional deed they accomplished over a limited period of time that brings honour to our country. The Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) honours activities or deeds that are innovative, set an example or model for others to follow, or improve the quality of life in a community.

There are two levels: a cross and a medal. The different levels reflect the scope and impact of the activity or deed. The Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) is part of the Canadian Honours System and is one of the highest distinctions a Canadian civilian can receive.
