Remembrance Day 2020

November 11, 2020

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, took part in the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

Following the National Remembrance Day Ceremony, Mrs. Debra Sullivan, 2020 National Silver Cross Mother, and her daughter, Tammy Lynne Lowe, were invited to Rideau Hall for a conversation with Her Excellency in the Verandah adjoining the Long Gallery at Rideau Hall.

The Governor General finished the day with a visit to the National Military Cemetery located at Beechwood Cemetery where she laid flowers at the Cross of Sacrifice. Erected in 1958 by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Cross of Sacrifice resides in a section of the cemetery dedicated to the memory of Canadian service personnel who honourably served their country in war and peace, at home and abroad, and are now at rest.
