We are gathered today on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation.
I make this land acknowledgement to honour the full national history of Canada, which includes the stories of thousands of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
It is my honour, as commander-in-chief, to celebrate your promotions to the ranks of general and flag officer, and to present you with your scrolls.
Today, we recognize your achievements and your advancement as senior leaders in the Forces.
You have my deepest gratitude for taking on this tremendous responsibility at a pivotal moment for our country.
We are a nation of peace, democracy and collaboration.
These values—which define us as Canadians—continue to be embodied and upheld by the CAF. You have chosen the profession of arms to safeguard them.
As we face unprecedented global uncertainty, I am confident that your leadership will enable your teams to build on this proud legacy, and will inspire the next generation to pursue excellence.
I am also confident that you will continue to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion, and to prioritize mental health within your organization.
This is key to ensuring all members feel fully supported and valued for the unique skills and perspectives they bring to Canada’s defence efforts.
You have chosen a remarkable and demanding career. Throughout it, you have shown unwavering dedication and made significant sacrifices. Your families have done the same.
To every family member and loved one gathered here today, thank you for your ongoing support and resilience.
And to our recipients, congratulations on your well-deserved promotions.
