She has held with distinction a variety of senior positions of responsibility throughout her public service career. She has served as deputy minister in various departments, Secretary to the Cabinet for Federal-Provincial Relations and President of Canadian International Development Agency, and was the first woman to be appointed Clerk of the Privy Council. She has taken on some sizeable challenges, and her leadership helped to bring about the establishment of a new approach to human resources management. She continues to serve her country loyally as President of the Canadian Centre for Management Development.
