Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, presented the 2024 Michener Awards during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
The awards included the Michener Award for meritorious public service journalism; the Michener-Baxter Award for Exceptional Service to Canadian Journalism; the 2025 Michener-L. Richard O’Hagan Fellowship for Journalism Education; the Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Investigative Journalism; and the inaugural Norman Webster Fellowships.
Each of you here tonight plays a critical role in capturing—and making sense of—the complexities of our world, from Parliament Hill to communities across the country, to events around the world.

For more than 50 years, the Michener Awards have honoured outstanding and unbiased journalism that results in positive change for the public good. The Michener Awards and Fellowships are administered by the Michener Awards Foundation in partnership with the Rideau Hall Foundation.
