Visitor Centre

The grounds of Rideau Hall are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to one hour before sunset. Rideau Hall and the Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle are now open for in-person visits.

While masks are not required, visitors are encouraged to wear one when indoors. Masks are available on-site.

Start your visit at this charming interpretation centre located at the Thomas Street entrance gate. This heritage building was once the Gardener’s Cottage at the time of Canada’s Confederation. Today, it offers an exhibition about the history of Rideau Hall and the role of the governor general. This is also where we offer some activities for children, including a nearby play structure, and where you will find several picnic tables.

Free Wi-Fi is also available.

A detailed map of the grounds will help you discover the highlights and history of this national historic site. Download our map of the grounds.
