Today, we welcome four new diplomatic representatives to Canada.

We confer three types of honours today.

All of you, while in Canada, will bring your own hope. Hope for a brighter future and hope to further the already strong friendships between nations.

Today, we have come together to learn about each other, to celebrate our most cherished values, and to honour those who have shown such values most visibly.

Reconciliation has many facets. It is not an isolated process or project. And it is not just an Indigenous issue. It requires us to be respectful of all cultures and beliefs. And it has no end date.

I join with parents across Inuit Nunangat in expressing my gratitude for the extraordinary effort required of you these past few years.

It's a pleasure to be here at this presentation of the Governor General’s Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case and to celebrate the accomplishments of these four leaders.

I carry the story of my people with me wherever I go. And as representatives of your homelands, you are doing the same.

We must all continue our work to promote understanding and respect.

There is always hope that tomorrow can be better if we work together to achieve it.

Now, more than ever, we cannot give up on communication, dialogue, partnerships and finding common ground to resolve shared challenges.
