Message from the Governor General of Canada on National Acadian Day

August 15, 2025

For centuries, Acadians have held steadfast to their language, traditions, culture and unique identity. Their resilience, determination and cultural pride are an inspiration to us all, embodying the strength that comes from their history and from their unwavering sense of community.

I had the privilege to learn more about Acadian heritage and history during my visits to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia last year, and have seen first-hand the profound impact Acadians have had on our country. By celebrating our diverse cultures and shared narrative, we strengthen the bonds that unite us and build a more inclusive future for everyone.

As the jubilant echoes of the Tintamarre mark National Acadian Day, let us celebrate Acadian communities across Canada for their contributions that continue to enrich the vibrant fabric of our nation.
