As we mark Asian Heritage Month, let us honour the rich cultures, traditions and stories of people of Asian origin in Canada.
Members of the Asian community have made invaluable contributions to every facet of society, from coast to coast to coast. Their achievements, resilience and leadership have long been instrumental in creating a more inclusive and dynamic Canada. From science and business to the arts, education and public service, Asian Canadians continue to shape our national identity and strengthen our collective future.
This year also marks the 102th anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act—an unjust policy that sought to exclude and marginalize people of Chinese descent. As we reflect on this painful chapter in our history, we must reaffirm our collective oath to combatting racism, discrimination, and intolerance in all forms.
As governor general, I remain committed to promoting diversity, fostering inclusion and celebrating the many voices that make Canada strong. Today and every day, let us embrace the opportunity to learn from one another and build a country where everyone belongs.
