I have the honour of welcoming you today, here on the traditional, unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation.
This acknowledgement highlights the long history of Indigenous peoples who have taken care of this land and nurtured relationships among various nations since time immemorial.
Congratulations on your new appointments, heads of mission from Andorra, Cambodia, Maldives, Botswana and the United States of America.
You’ve come to Canada at a pivotal moment for diplomacy.
For decades, we have forged international relations based on trust and collaboration.
And our relations have fostered peace and security around the world. They have fostered sustainable growth and investment. Climate action. Knowledge-sharing and innovation.
How can we preserve these pillars of the global order?
In the face of increasing uncertainties, how do we build on the strong bonds between our countries?
Excellencies, I am confident that, during your time here, you can help answer these questions.
Let us choose collaboration to build a safer world, full of opportunities for our children.
Let us strengthen our partnerships so that we continue creating prosperity and opportunities for everyone—for the people in all our countries and beyond.
Stability and co-operation are more crucial than ever.
I know you will find in Canada a collaborative, reliable partner.
Our Maple Leaf flag that you see here is a testament to the strength and unity of our nation.
Since 1965, it has soared above our triumphs and challenges. It has adorned the uniforms of our Canadian Armed Forces members. It has been raised on distant continents and proudly displayed by our Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
And it stands for the values that define us as Canadians.
Peace. Democracy. Diversity. Equality. Collaboration and respect.
All countries and individuals are interconnected.
As we navigate these turbulent times, let’s make diplomacy work for all.
We are strongest when we work together.
Merci. Thank you. Nakurmiik.
