I have the honour of welcoming you on the traditional, unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation.

Indigenous peoples have been practicing diplomacy since time immemorial, nurturing relationships among various nations.

Congratulations on your new appointments, heads of mission from Costa Rica, Indonesia, Mauritania and the Philippines.

You’ve come to Canada at a time when collaboration across borders is more crucial than ever.

These are disruptive times, yes—but they are also full of opportunities.

Around the world, we are witnessing a rise in violent conflict.

Protectionism is intensifying, harming individuals and communities alike.

Climate change continues to exact a heavy toll on vulnerable communities around the world.

In the face of these global challenges, Canada aims to be a partner in co-operation.

A voice for dialogue and transparency.

We want to help build a safer, more prosperous world— through fair, rules-based trade.

Through more inclusive supply chains.

Through stronger economic and social systems that can withstand shocks over time.

We want to promote the responsible use of emerging technologies to support peace and shared prosperity—not to deepen inequality or fuel conflict.

That’s the message we carried as hosts of the G7 Summit in June—and it’s the spirit in which we welcome you today.

Excellencies, I invite you to use your time here to promote co-operation, equality and peace.

These values matter deeply to Canadians.

So, forge new partnerships. Innovate.

Take time to learn about our history.

And discover the richness of our cultural diversity—including Indigenous peoples, who continue to be relationship builders today.

I wish you and your families inspiring moments and wonderful discoveries during your time in our country.

Welcome to Canada.
