Governor General marks Canada’s Birthday During COVID-19 Pandemic

OTTAWA—In celebration of Canada Day during these unprecedented times, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, is sharing a special video message on the 153rd anniversary of our beloved country.

“I am confident that […] we will not remain indifferent. That we will build on our ability to act collectively, to act as one for the good of all. Because we are intrinsically human. And we care. Today let us celebrate the generosity and the resilience of everyone throughout the country,” says the Governor General in her video message to all Canadians, which highlights the values and resilience that have guided us through this year’s challenges.

The Governor General would also like to take this opportunity to highlight Canadians doing remarkable deeds. The announcement of 123 new Canadian Honours recipients was released today, covering three categories of honours: Meritorious Service Decoration (Civil Division), Decoration for Bravery and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. Coming from across the country and from all walks of life, these new honours recipients concretely illustrate why we can all be proud to call Canada home.

Happy Canada Day!
