Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada,
on the Occasion of International Women’s Day

OTTAWA—As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us look back on the efforts made by our grandmothers and mothers to secure a better future for their daughters and for all of society.

Today, we honour women who have placed Canada at the forefront in recognizing women’s rights.  Nonetheless, women are still under-represented on many fronts. We must continue to offer equal opportunities for girls and women to be role models in every aspect of life.

On this International Women’s Day, let us come together to create a future in which women and men alike can continue to contribute their ideas and knowledge to build a smarter, more caring Canada.

David Johnston
