It is my pleasure to participate in the announcement of the highlights of the first Royal Tour overseas by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Sharon and I were delighted to represent Canadians at the Royal Wedding back in April. We had the honour of being introduced to Their Royal Highnesses, at which time they expressed to us how they were genuinely looking forward to coming and discovering our country together, as a couple.

As they embark on this Royal Tour, they will have the unequalled opportunity to visit communities across our wonderful country and witness what Canada is becoming, as we move towards its 150th anniversary in 2017.

“Moving Forward Together” is indeed a well-chosen theme for this tour. It is our chance to share in this journey with Their Royal Highnesses, who represent the future of the Crown in Canada, and to demonstrate our Canadian warmth and hospitality.

As we celebrate National Aboriginal Day today, I know that Their Royal Highnesses will appreciate the rich culture and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis people, as well as the history we all share.

I have no doubt that they will enjoy Canada’s wonderful landscapes and have memorable encounters with the many smart and caring people of this country.

Today, I would like to announce that the official ceremony to welcome Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Canada will be held at Rideau Hall on June 30.

Starting at 1 p.m., everyone is invited to the grounds of Rideau Hall, the home of the people, to join Sharon and me in welcoming the Royal Couple, who are expected to arrive at about 3 p.m.

We are especially pleased that Canada will be the first country overseas to be visited by the newlyweds. Let’s make them feel at home and show them how we can move forward together.

Thank you.
