“The strong presence of solidarity and diversity that exists throughout the public service reflects the importance these values have in the lives of Canadians. In the spirit of solidarity, thousands of public servants come together every day to achieve their common goal of ensuring the well-being of the Canadian population. As representatives of the larger community in which they serve, each team member has an understanding of diversity and is sensitive to the needs of all.

Public servants are involved in every aspect of society and they endeavour to serve it with the utmost respect. Thanks to the myriad of services available, we are able to benefit from a greater quality of life. With the firm base of support they provide, we, in turn, can concentrate on our own personal development and on the collective growth needed to build better and stronger communities. The influence of Canada’s public service, and the committed efforts of everyone working in this institution, extends well beyond our borders, serving as an exemplary model for other countries to follow.

On the occasion of National Public Service Week 2007, I join all Canadians in thanking public servants for the invaluable contributions they bring to our society.”

Michaëlle Jean
