“My husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond, and I were grieved to hear of the unfortunate event that took the life of Major Raymond Ruckpaul, an armoured officer based at the NATO Allied Land Component Command Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, and who was serving in Kabul, Afghanistan with the International Security Assistance Force Headquarters.

Like his fellow soldiers, this man has expressed devotion and commitment alongside the Afghan population. Today, we honour all of our soldiers who remain driven by the hope of a better world and to their families who understand the importance of fighting for this mission, as dangerous as it may be. 

On behalf of all Canadians, we offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Major Ruckpaul.”
