Owen McKinley-Young, a Grade 8 student, has led his school's Leadership Team and has contributed to the Lowertown and the Sandy Hill communities. At his school, he organized fundraising initiatives for the Terry Fox School Day Run and cancer research, for Free The Children and Right to Play projects, and for Oxfam, to assist struggling Nepalese citizens. Inspired by the difficulty and frustration of a wheelchair-bound friend, Owen invented a device to enable those in wheelchairs to get over a curb.
