Joseph Silkauskas, Beaconsfield, Que.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

For more than ten years, two days a week, Joseph Silkauskas has volunteered at the Shriners Hospital in Montréal, providing service directly to children as a classroom volunteer with their School Program. He assists children with physical disabilities, helping them to obtain an education and ensuring that their intellectual capabilities are advanced and encouraged. Mr. Silkauskas also serves as a public representative on the Animal Care Committee for the Shriners Hospital, devoting considerable time over the past five years and demonstrating a strong concern for the care and respect of animals used in medical research.
