Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Dene Webber has been a volunteer teacher at Hutton House for eight years, tutoring adult learners with mental disabilities in basic reading, spelling, math and life skills. He has encouraged some to write short stories and booklets and assisted another in producing a public service video promoting voluntarism. He has also helped integrate people with developmental disabilities into community leisure activities and helped found a seniors self-education discussion group in a university setting. In addition, he took part in a 1996 walk to raise funds for the Hip and Joint Replacement Association.
