Augustin Tremblay, Hérouxville, Quebec (posthumous)
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Augustin Tremblay began volunteering when he was 14 years old. This Knight of Columbus, a man of faith and of strong character, gave countless hours to his fellow Canadians and his church; to some, he would offer comfort, to others, encouragement. Starting in 1957, he held several important positions in the Association Lacordaire du Canada, now Sobriété Canada. He created a food distribution network for disadvantaged families in his community and made regular visits to senior citizens. For several years, he organized fund-raising activities for the telethon le Noël du Pauvre. His unfailing generosity and the respect he showed to everyone made him a wonderful role model.
