Danny Stump and Sarah-Spring Easton-Stump, Williams Lake, B.C.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For the past 18 years, Danny Stump and Sarah-Spring Easton-Stump have devoted countless hours to the Aboriginal people in their community. They have provided shelter, food and rehabilitation to the homeless, high-risk individuals and those with mental disabilities. They housed 30-50 people a night on their floors until 1990 when Mrs. Easton-Stump formed Abraham's Lodge and Care Society with the assistance of the mayor, police officers and friends. Each year, they have sent out Christmas hampers, food for children's school lunches, and hundreds of thousands of pounds of dry goods to 18 local reserves from their food, clothing and furniture bank. Their caring and committed efforts have saved hundreds of lives.
