Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

Agnes and Richard Joseph Ackerman are always ready to lend a hand to those in need. For nearly 40 years, they have volunteered for the Montréal Diet Dispensary, a non-profit organization providing support to disadvantaged women. The Ackermans have spent countless hours providing nutritional instruction for pregnant women, organizing bazaars, repairing donated furniture and sewing blankets and baby clothes. They have also collected and distributed food to the needy on behalf of Crawford Park United Church. Mr. Ackerman has served as church steward, clerk and elder, while Mrs. Ackerman has organized fundraising for several local shelters, taught Sunday School and assisted youth and women's groups for the Church.
