George Allison McKiel, C.D., Toronto, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

For over 20 years, George McKiel has represented the concerns of veterans to the Royal Canadian Legion. As chair of the sick committee and the Sunnybrook veterans' committee, he has visited many veterans at home and in hospital, raised funds at the Legion's raffles and bingos and organized many events including an annual Christmas dinner. Mr. McKiel also coaches a children's hockey team and has spent hundreds of hours collecting food and clothing for the Salvation Army. Always ready to drive his neighbours to medical appointments and to church, Mr. McKiel has contributed to his community in countless ways.
