Throughout his long distinguished career in the National Hockey League, he established a reputation for gentlemanly conduct and sportsmanship. A four-time winner of the Lady Bing Trophy, he played on eight Stanley Cup championship teams and was the first recipient of the James Norris Memorial Trophy. As a player, and later as a coach and general manager, he earned the admiration of both the players and the fans. Inducted into the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, he serves as a role model to young Canadians.
