Throughout his illustrious career, Herb Gray has been an enduring force in Canadian politics. One of Canada's longest-serving politicians, he was first elected in 1962 and was re-elected an unprecedented 12 consecutive times. Minister of the Crown responsible for various portfolios, he later served as deputy prime minister. A master parliamentarian, he was widely respected by all members of the House of Commons. Although retired from politics, he continues to provide strong leadership and wise counsel as chair of the Canadian section of the International Joint Commission.
