He edited, directed and produced some 400 productions at the National Film Board of Canada during his forty-year career. His skills in using creative editing techniques to salvage films earned him the title of the "Film Doctor." He helped develop numerous innovations for animated and live-action documentaries and has acted as a trainer and mentor to many Canadian filmmakers.
