At 18, he dreamed of teaching French literature. Instead, he became one of the pioneers of Quebec dramatic arts. A prolific author, he has written for both television and the theatre. Many of his works have been translated into various languages and are considered classics, including Un simple soldat and Au retour des oies blanches. Ushering in a new style of dramatic writing, he paved the way for numerous playwrights. Today, his plays continue to be performed in Canada in both French and English and are studied overseas.
