A tireless volunteer, he is considered by many to be Canada's pre-eminent river conservationist. He founded and continues to coordinate B.C. Rivers Day, a project attracting some 45,000 volunteers who clean up waterways throughout the province. Tremendously active with the B.C. Heritage River Program, he was the first non-government appointee to the national Canadian Heritage River Board. In addition, he has helped coordinate major conferences in his province for the last 25 years and has lent his expertise to fledgling conservation organizations around the world.
