A highly respected ornithologist and Chair of the Centre for Wildlife Ecology at Simon Fraser University, he has devoted his life to the study and conservation of Canada's bird population. Well known internationally for his research work on Arctic snow geese, he is also an active volunteer with amateur bird watching groups, professional ornithological organizations and conservationists. He instills in others his passion for migratory birds and encourages positive action by governments, universities and the community.
