This psychologist and researcher at the IWK Health Centre and Dalhousie University is an international leader in pain control for children and newborns. He created pain measure scales for parents and health professionals to accurately identify the level of pain in children. Sensitive to parents' needs, he wrote one of the first books designed to assist them with pain management strategies for their children living with cancer. He has moved information into the public domain where it can be accessed in user-friendly ways, notably through the Internet. His work has won him numerous accolades from his peers, including the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
