He was a mentor for many of today's Inuit leaders during his 20-year tenure as Superintendent of Education for the federal Department of Northern Affairs. He is admired for his contributions to policy and program development which enabled young Inuit students to leave the North to pursue their studies. Remembered fondly by those students for his caring devotion and his friendship, he also furthered the cause of the Inuit Tapirisat of Canada as their Executive Director, helping to give the Inuit people a common voice.
