For more than thirty years, she has set an example by doing. Her voluntary involvements have encompassed many areas of life - health care, human rights, education, culture and women's issues. An icon in the community, she has served as a councillor for the city of Nanaimo and has been an advocate for the arts as a member of the Nanaimo Arts Council. In addition, she was the driving force behind the construction of the Port Theatre, a 900-seat facility for the performing arts.
