A mechanical engineer, Lloyd Secord played an instrumental role in securing Canada's involvement in one of the most significant advances in aerospace engineering, the Canadarm. In the 1970s, he brought Canadian robotics expertise to the attention of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and was part of the team that developed the remote manipulator arm for the space shuttle bay. His many other engineering achievements include the design of wind tunnels, telescopes and fuelling machines for Candu reactors. Respected by his peers, he is a fellow of both the Engineering Institute of Canada and the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute.
