Professor Emeritus of the Department of Geology at the University of Alberta, he has served Canada for more than fifty years as a teacher, a prospector for the Canadian petroleum industry, and an internationally renowned research scientist. Known as the dean of Canadian paleontology, he is one of Canada's preeminent geologists with particular expertise in Northeastern British Columbia and Northwestern Alberta. He has been an inspiration and a role model to thousands of students over the last three generations.
