Robert Carroll is known as the father of Canadian paleontology. A professor at McGill University for more than four decades, he investigated the origins of amphibians and reptiles, and is best known for his analysis of fossils in the Canadian Maritimes. His exemplary research led to the designation of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs in Nova Scotia as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which secured Canada’s place as an international leader in the study of prehistoric life. He is a beloved mentor to many acclaimed scholars in his field.
