    This academic administrator has made significant contributions to the quality of education. First principal of Sir Wilfred Grenfell College at Memorial University of Newfoundland, he launched the College as a seat of learning. In addition, he is the author of a number of works on Newfoundland's past and editor of the Encyclopaedia of Newfoundland and Labrador.
