Her Olympic Gold Medal in Women's Singles figure skating, won in 1948, to this date has not been matched by another Canadian and her name is still recognized by people of all ages throughout the country. She is a mentor to a younger generation of skaters and supports various charitable and educational causes and is the founder and Chancellor of the International Academy of Merchandising and Design in Toronto.
