She has raised the profile of nursing in Canada and contributed to improved standards of patient care around the world. Her pioneering efforts to establish nursing research as a respected field of study led to one of the first Masters and Doctoral in Nursing programs in Canada. Founding Chair of the Alberta Foundation for Nursing Research, she has worked to promote the study of advanced clinical nursing practice, theory and research, and brought this view to other countries. Professor Emerita at the University of Alberta and Adjunct Professor for Life at the University of Calgary, she is a mentor to generations of young nurses.
