Starting in his hometown of Buctouche, New Brunswick, he built an international business empire which includes the Western hemisphere's first deep-water oil terminal, thousands of service stations in Eastern Canada, a modern shipyard, large forest production operations and newspaper and broadcasting companies. His vast industrial enterprise, still based in New Brunswick, provides employment to thousands of people.
