Throughout his distinguished diplomatic career, he helped to enhance Canada's reputation abroad. As the first resident Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, he established vital political and economic relations and later helped shape foreign policy as Director-General for Africa and Middle Eastern Affairs. As Ambassador to Austria, he represented Canada's interests in Vienna, as well as those in various United Nations organizations. Now retired, he is a member of several non-governmental organizations and the co-founder of Action Canada for Population and Development.
