David Crombie has made a broad and lasting contribution to public life. He is fondly remembered in Toronto as the "tiny perfect mayor". Federally, he served with distinction for a decade, holding several important cabinet posts. His concern for the natural and built environment is reflected in his roles as a commissioner with the Royal Commission on the Future of the Toronto Waterfront and as founding chair of the Waterfront RegenerationTrust. As well, he was the first chancellor of Ryerson Polytechnic University and currently heads the Canadian Urban Institute and the board of directors of Ontario Place.
