- Invested on: April 20, 1983
He joined the Shell companies as a young engineer and, after postings in Canada and other parts of the world, became president of Shell Canada in 1974. This position he attained not only through business acumen but because he typified a new and enlightened generation of executives. "Broad -gauged" is the metaphoric term that has been applied to him, for he has encouraged in his company high standards of performance, public responsibility, and cooperation with labour.
