Former Chief Justice of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, he was responsible for preparing the Province a new Judicature Act which has served as a model for others. His free time has been devoted to community service with such organizations as the Red Cross Society at both the provincial and national levels, the Victoria General Hospital Commission, the Nova Scotia Human Rights Committee, and the Atlantic School of Theology.
