His career in education has taken him from science teacher to school principal in Edmonton, a professorship at the University of Alberta and a school project in Thailand. Parallel to this work has been a range of community activities which led to his election as mayor in 1968. The great achievement of his six years in City Hall was to bring the 1978 Commonwealth Games to Edmonton.
